Luca goofing off

Luca using his nebulizer

Poor Luca has been suffering from a really persistent cough over the last 5 months. Per doctors orders we are now giving him help to clear up is lungs and steroids to help heal them. When we started it took two people to administer the inhalers, one to hold him down and one to hold the inhaler to his face while he violently tried to escape. Now he is so used to it that he is completely taking care of it by himself sometimes when the iPad helps keep him occupied.

Phone conversation with Maya

I love your positive outlook on life Maya.

Today when talking on the phone I hear mom in the background very upset about water being spilled all over the floor and shortly thereafter that you haven't cleaned up your room as promised. You are completely unfazed and just happily keep on talking to me:

"Daddy, I will bring the phone with me to my room so I can talk to you while I clean my room, ok?. Daddy, let me tell you something, today was the bestest day ever!! I helped mommy hang up paintings in my room and it has three fairies. Mommy speaks really loud and angry, why does she do that daddy?"
Me: Because you and Luca spilled water everywhere and you made a mess in your room.
Maya: Ok, I will put the phone down on my bed daddy so I can clean and talk to you. MOMMMY!! I can't clean this white stuff.
And off she runs....

The "white stuff" was styrofoam that Maya and Luca had pulverized on the carpet.

Maya's first day at Kindergarden

How exciting! None of us slept well last night. Maya started with sleeping in her own room then she came to mommy's and daddy's room to sleep. She fell asleep then she woke up around midnight when daddy and mommy were ready for bed after watching a little of a 3d movie on our newly purchased 65 inch TV- more for the novelty of 3d than for entertainment. Mommy woke up several times through the night, thinking about work and many other things, so did Daddy who'd just had a 2-week vacation, or more exactly, 2-week busy time with Maya and Luca and housework. When Luca woke up crying around 4am, Daddy had to go to his room and sleep there.

Anyway, it's a new day in our life, Sept 19, 2013. Maya's first day at Kindergarden. Mommy wakes up Maya at 7am. We eat breakfast, brush teeth, change clothes, and finish all the other chores around 7:30am.  Then the four of us get out of the door and walk eight or nine minutes to Farnham School. A lot of parents and their kids in the neighborhood are heading the same direction. We arrive at the school, say hi to Maya's teacher, Mr. Dinh, who's been with the school for two years and has come from architecture and construction. There'll be 27 students in Maya's class, a good mix of races. We follow Mr. Dinh to Maya's classroom, Classroom 1, find Maya's bin and desk. After Maya and her classmates sit down on the rainbow carpet, we kiss her goodbye and wish her a good day (her class ends at 11:30am the first three weeks, then it'll end at 2pm after that.) The following one hour we are at the orientation with the Principle in a big classroom. It looks like that parents are very involved in the school with all kinds of activities and fundraising.

Ready to go: the school bag contains sharpies, folders (yellow and purple), washable markers (thin and thick), and some paper, a water bottle, some slices of apples, and a hand wash

Maya gets off at 11:30am. It's a bit chaotic when parents try to pick up their kids. Maya is so hungry when she gets home that she eats two sandwiches and some cucumbers and tomatoes.

When asked if she likes kindergarden or preschool better, Maya replies: "Kindergarden!" because "there's no circle time and no nap at kindergarden."
